Week 14 Story: The God's Crown

(Photo found on MaxPixel)

There was once a princess named Emerald who was born as a prince. She was born within a poor family who worked hard for Queen Jude. Emerald loved to play in the castle’s gardens and one-day Queen Jude approached the young Emerald and told her that her daughter had been looking for a princess who would rule beside her. Emerald smiled at the queen and told her that she would like to meet the Queen’s daughter.

The Queens daughter Ruby was a tough princess and had set out on an adventure to retrieve the God’s crown. Emerald had heard tales of this crown and knew that the journey would be difficult.

“I will go with Ruby to obtain the crown if you would allow me to Queen Jude?” Emerald asked.

“Of Course my sweet child. If you come back and can lay on Ruby’s bed with a pea underneath the mattress then you will have my permission to marry Ruby and you will rule as a queen beside her for the rest of your days,” Queen Jade explained.

Emerald set out to join Ruby on the quest for the God’s Crown. On the pathway Emerald encountered a fairy goddess who granted her with the body that would help her on the way to Ruby. The new body was a feminine body that had grown up almost instantly as Ruby was well into her twenties. Emerald looked with admiration at the new grown-up body that she was granted and saw herself for the first time as the woman she wanted to become.

Emerald was clothed within a silver dress that flowed very nicely down her body and was guarded with a spell that acted like armor for her safety. Emerald was also given a flask that held a liquid that could heal even the most severe wounds and could also raise someone from the dead. The elixir was made from the blood of the Savior and the fairy enchanted it using some white sage.

Ruby saw Emerald coming using the gifts that God had given her. This gift was special in that Ruby could see her own future through visions that appeared to her. Ruby was dressed in a knight’s armor and was herself enchanted by the fairy goddess so that she would not be hurt by any mortal instrument but she could still be hurt if the God’s hunters came looking for her.

Emerald fell fast for Ruby when she saw her. She knew that the journey to retrieve the God’s Crown would be well worth it if she had the chance to spend time with Ruby. She knew that Ruby saw her coming as Ruby was sitting on a rock waiting for her to join her.

“Ruby I have come to aid you in your quest,” Emerald told her as she approached Ruby.

“I have seen your coming and will gladly take your company,” Ruby replied.

“How far till we get to the place where the Crown is hidden?” Emerald asked.

“Not far at all. It should be just over that hill,” Ruby replied.

Ruby and Emerald soon went into the God’s cave and were blown away by the riches that were concealed inside. They walked into the throne room and the God appeared to them in the shape of a woman.

“You have come seeking my crown,” the God said to the two women.

“Yes ma’am we have,” Said Ruby.

“I shall give it to you freely as long as you promise to do me a favor,” the God said.

“What would that favor be good God,” Ruby and Emerald asked together.

“Love and cherish each other every day and spread a message to my people that love exists within the form of you both and rule over your kingdom well,” the God commanded.

“We will love each other,” Ruby said with a look at Emerald.

Emerald and Ruby left the cave with the Crown in hand and the Queen would allow the two to marry except the pea would prove to be a challenge. The two women soon were married however and lived happily ever after.

Author’s Note:

I wanted to take the story of the wicked prince and the Princess and the pea and blend the two together to create a story about a transwoman who was lesbian.
The story of the wicked prince was interesting in that it’s about a man who was a cruel prince and who killed everyone around him at some point he decides that he is going to attempt to kill God and fails terribly at this task.  This story is how I came up with my idea of the God’s Crown relic and how I thought about the maleness of God in every story. I decided to change the character of God by making it a female.
The story about the princess and the pea is a classic tale that I truly have enjoyed for years. The story is about a prince who is looking for a princess but the princess must not be able to sleep upon a bunch of mattresses with a pea located on the bottom of the mattresses the first girl who could not sleep on the mattresses would become the princess and would marry the prince. I saw this as an opportunity to make the prince a woman and incorporate a lesbian relationship in my story I also saw this as another obstacle that could face the two young lesbian lovers after their heroic quest to retrieve the Crown.
I hope that whoever reads this would be able to see themselves within the characters even if it is just a glimpse. I also hope that these stories are entertaining and that they provide joy for some of the people that may be going through a hard time with love. As always enjoy and I hope to hear comments soon.

  1. Hi Shaun! I absolutely love your story and the creative liberties you took in order to make it fit with your topic. I am all for it and think it is so refreshing to see a story with proper representation of the transgender community. I grew up reading The Princess And The Pea and loved the subtle hints and easter eggs in this story that related so well to the traditional tale. Phenomenal job!

  2. Hey Shaun,
I absolutely loved your story and the message within. Love truly can be anywhere. The imagery that you used was great and the acceptance of all the reader encounters in the story is heartwarming. It is refreshing to see this type of story when you have been reading Indian Epics, where the man seems to be superior in every story. Overall, fantastic job!

  3. Hey Shaun,

I LOVED reading this story and I really loved your message of how love is love, it can be found anywhere, and it is always a true and noble thing. That is something that a lot of society does not understand yet, sadly. I really loved your imagery and word choice because it helped craft a really cool world for the story to take place in! I can definitely tell you're a professional writing major! Great work and good luck on your finals.

  4. Shaun,

As always, what an incredibly unique and creative spin on the familiar stories! I found it interesting that you chose to blend the story of the wicked prince and the princess and the pea together, rather than focusing on one or the other. I enjoyed the magical beings that helped Emerald and Ruby on their quest, as well.

  5. Hey howdy Shau,
Great and quick little story here. It feels like a lot of our peers (including myself) have been focusing on narrative so much this semester that reading all of your dialogue is refreshing. You do a great job of keeping the reader engaged through these lines. It reminded me how effective dialogue can be at getting the theme across in the end. Awesome here.

  6. Hello, Shaun!

I am back for more of your stories! I going to be honest here – I have no idea what this story is going to be about, but, based on the title, I know I am in for a good time. Overall, I really liked all of your stories, including this one! They were very interesting, and, quite honestly, really creative! I know this is the end for this class, but you should continue nurturing your writing talent elsewhere!
