Week 3 Story: The Creation of Adam in Eden

(Story is now at my portfolio)

Before time on earth began the goddess and the god were there. Now the god and the goddess were intertwined within the same cycle, and in turn, the world was made by the combined power of the god and goddess. The god ruled the forests of the world while the goddess ruled the fields and the moon. There was no other creature in sight, and the deities felt lonely. The goddess spoke to the god to whom she had given birth who had grown into adulthood and said to him “Why should we not create magical creatures of our own to be able to be one with nature and to be able to harness the power of our spirits to take care of the Earth in which I am?” Thereby the god replied to the goddess who gave birth to him “I do not see why we cannot do what you might suggest. Perhaps it would be nice to be able to leave the earth with this caretaker while we continue our reign from the heavens.” The goddess replied in earnest “Oh how I long to return to my old self as the moon. How would we create a magical being?” The god being wise in his age like an old owl replied “Why don’t we form the being out of the earth so that he may be one with us and be able to call on us should trouble were to arise within the world. The being would need others eventually to aid him and to give him companionship.” To which the goddess replied, “Very well then so we shall make the being out of the earth from which he shall derive his powers.” The god and goddess began to circle around the plot of land of which they wanted to use to create the being. As the being began to form the god and goddess gave the being energy and in turn, the being began to breathe. When the god and goddess had finished creating the being they called it humankind and told the human “you shall have power for eternity as long as you use it for light, except should the power be used for darkness you shall see the light turn dark, warmth turn cold and death and sickness run rampant. Above all, ye shall harm none with the power that we shall give.” The human replied “Blessed be thou for ye have made me of the earth and from it, I shall not return. I shall honor ye with an altar upon which I shall ask ye for blessing and from this altar I shall give thanks.” The goddess and god were satisfied with what the human spoke and began to ascend from the earth. This was the way of creation, and the god and goddess blessed the human and called him Adam and created a garden called Eden around him that sprouted every good fruit and food that Adam could desire. Adam continued to use the altar for many years and became very wise in his years and learned the secrets of the god and goddess and discovered the inner god within himself.

To Be Continued…

Authors note: I began by looking at the biblical story of the creation of Adam and then proceded to incorporate some Wiccan beliefs by way of the god and goddess. Although the creation story presented here is entirely fiction, the biblical account is a parallel.

You can find the story of creation in the bible in Genesis 2-3 and the idea of the god and goddess came from a personal Wiccan book of mine.

  1. Shaun,
I really liked that you incorporated some Wiccan beliefs into the story of the creation of Adam. This added a different kind of feeling to one of the oldest creation stories of all time. I thought you did a really good job with the dialogue and characterizing the god and goddess. I wish you had broken up your story into paragraphs as it was kind of hard to read in one large block.

  3. Shaun,

I really loved your the new feel of the creation story. Every culture has a different take on the creation story and I loved to see a story with blended content of a classic with multiple takes. The story was packed with some really good dialogue. As a reader I felt like I was able to more of understand exactly what was going on in this take on this time old story.

  4. Hey, Shaun!

I really like the direction you took the story, with the god and goddess instead of just one single god. You breathed life into the story and made it your own! The only tip I might suggest is that you break up the text block with some spaces, like where there is dialogue. This will make the story easier to read! Great job!

  5. Hi Shaun!
I like this different take on the Creation story from the Christian Bible. I'm not too familiar with Wiccan beliefs, but I get a sense that you've incorporated some of the "earth magic" contents from that into your more traditional creation story. I like how you've taken it pretty far from the bible story and really made something new out of it that could apply to a number of different belief systems!

  6. Hello Shaun,

As was probably your goal, this was a much different taken on the creation story than I have read before. This was a curious way to introduce the creation of Adam, and my attention was definitely caught by the goddess. I found this interesting because in this story, this implies that the goddess came first since she gave birth to the god. This makes me wonder where the goddess came from before she gave birth to the god. Maybe that will be explained in your next installment!

  7. Hello, Shaun!

Let me start off by saying that I really liked your story! I found your use of Wiccan beliefs combined with the traditional biblical story of the creation of Adam to be refreshing! I really like how you added the personal picture of the Wiccan book you own. It really does look interesting, and I honestly think I would like to get my hands on one!

  8. Hey Shaun,

I loved reading a new take on the creation story and how you made it your own. I like how you twisted the plot around and actually made a very well known story so distinct from the original. Your creativity never fails to impress me as I have become fascinated by reading some of your stories. This one is no different and great job on creating an original version of a story (which is often hard to do). Have a great finals week!
