My Feedback Thoughts
I think that no one understands how important feedback is until you take Media Writing and Storytelling in Gaylord College. In that class one mistake can cause a student to get a F on an assignment quicker than you can type the mistake. I feel as though other classes that I will and am taking as a professional writing major will indeed have a growth mindset train of thought. However, when dealing with news writing and journalism the idea of accuracy is such a big thing that manytimes one mistake can cause the student to quickly fail one of the main entry courses into the Gaylord College of Journalism and Mass Communications.
One of the articles that I enjoyed reading was the article titled Make Good Art. I enjoyed this because mistakes are one of the many ways in which students learn how to do the craft of writing. Students cannot become good at writing without making mistakes and learning how to look and fix those mistakes. So many times as a writer I think that I should have room to improve my writing without the fear that if I make one mistake with grammar or spelling than I am no longer a good writer. I feel like this article really makes sense for the Professional Writing field that i am going into.
The second article that I enjoyed was A Fixed Mindset Could be Holding You Back The writer of this article describes how many professional writing majors feel when they are told we cannot afford to make any mistakes because as media professionals we must be accurate all the time. I have found this way of thinking to be very restricting within the way how I think and it seems to stiffle my creative processes. As much as I understand that within Journalism accuracy is very important, I am having to look at it through the lens of a Professional Writing major who's main goal is to write entertaining novels and novels that change the way people view the world. I have enjoyed both of these articles and wish that I could get more feedback as it is very difficult to write well when you have to give yourself feedback.
